State Veterinary Service confirms action plan to monitor Bird flu in Azerbaijan

The State Veterinary Service (SVS) at Agriculture Ministry of Azerbaijan confirmed the action plan on holding active and passive monitoring of high pathogenic avian flu.

The SVS informed APA that according to the action plan, region (city) veterinary surgeons are to take samples from local veterinary labs and poultry farms, make examination, hold bio-security, and disinfection, cull out infected birds, ensure safety of servants as well as give trainings and monitor Bird flu by express method in regions and villages.

In addition, laboratories and are to be supplied with containers and necessary equipment, safety rooms be established in zone veterinary labs, these rooms be supplied with diagnostic apparatuses, reactive and other laboratory equipment, migratory and non-migratory birds be examined by express method in every 15 days and blood samples be taken from domestic birds and examined in the Republic Veterinary Lab every month.

Besides, the action plan envisages monthly schedules of taking samples from regions (cities) for active and passive monitoring, making standard form of report to systematize precautions. According to the action plan, controlling should be intensified in border and international checkpoints and public awareness should be raised through media.
