Al-Qaeda member might be extradited to Russia

Russian Criminal office initially addressed Azerbaijan with the similar request last year when the Jankayev was arrested on the Azerbaijani territory. The statement said that Jankayev took part in a number of terrorist acts and crimes committed in the Dagestan republic and in Russian Federation. However, the Azerbaijani Attorney office reported that Jankayev has also committed crimes in Azerbaijan and should first be trialed here. Afterwards, if found guilty he might be extradited to Russia.

Jankayev has been sentenced to 7 years in prison by the Azerbaijan Criminal court April 19, 2006. However, now his extradition is not yet possible. As according to the constitution, he has right for appeal; if he would want to use his right the extradition matter will be reviewed after the appeal court's decision.

Russian law enforcement accuses Jankayev in participation in the terrorist act in Dagestan on May 2002, which caused multiple casualties, Trend reports.
