Deputy Justice Minister and UN representative discuss children's rights

The Azerbaijani Deputy Justice Minister, Togrul Musayev and UN committee on children rights Chairman, Jacob Agbert Doek, who is currently on visit in Baku have discussed the children rights protection issues.

As Trend reports, Azerbaijan accepted number of responsibilities at the 41st session of the UN committee on children rights this year, Musayev said. These responsibilities are now performed at the highest level.

The visitor has been informed about the juvenile justice development in Azerbaijan, criminal responsibility of juniors, preliminary investigation and punishment.

Humanism principles are applied to juniors in the courts. And the court justice has also been increased in Azerbaijan, he said.

Doek in his turn highly appreciated achievements in children rights protection in the country, mentioning both work of international structures and local NGOs.

He expressed his hope that the current reforms would even increase the children rights protection.

Doek visited number of detention facilities for juveniles and women correctional facilities in the course of his visit.
