Prosecutor General's Office & Internal Affairs Ministry warn heads of some media

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office and the Internally Affairs Ministry warned the heads of the media in relation to the information spread on murder of Galib Bakirov, the resident of Aghsu town, due to political views on March 6 2006.

Bakirov was seriously wounded as a result of a shot at tea-house, located in the center of Goychay, and died on the way to hospital. An investigative group was immediately established from employees of the regional law-enforcement bodies. The investigate group determined that the crimes was committed on the base of personal relations as a result of urgent measures, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office told Trend.

The information on connection of Bakirov's murder with his activities as chair of the regional branch of the Azerbaijan National Independence Party, spread by some media presenting radical opposition is not true.

Basing on 10 item of the Law on mass media, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Internal Affairs Ministry stated inadmissibility of spreading of false and biased articles, as well as forming of wrong public opinion. The heads of the media bodies were warned that the legislation envisages some responsibility for similar acts.
