Seminar on Civil Code amendment kicks off

A two-day seminar devoted to the amendments to the Civil Code of Azerbaijan Republic commenced March 6 at the Milli Majlis.

The event jointly organized by the Milli Majlis administration and German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) involved representatives of the Presidential Administration, Cabinet of Ministers, Ministries of Justice, Finance, Tax and Transport, Constitutional Court, State Committee to work with religious associations, Office of Prosecutor General and other organizations.

Head of the Milli Majlis administration Safa Mirzoyev touched upon the objectives of the seminar and ties between GTZ and Azerbaijan. S. Mirzoyev noted that GTZ assists Azerbaijan in promoting legal reforms. Professors of the Bremen University have prepared a new project to improve the Azerbaijan's Civil Code concerning natural and juridical persons. The new project will be adopted after appropriate organizations and specialists give their proposals and comments.

Rolf Knieper, one of the authors of the project, Professor of the University of Bremen said legal reforms in Azerbaijan are in focus of international organizations' attention. GTZ supports and keeps an eye on the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan. R. Knieper noted the despite some limitations the project is up to the European standards. The project may need some amendments in the future as the society is changing and new rules are being established.
