The State Veterinary Service (SVS) take preventive measures on Absheron Peninsula, where bird flu was revealed on the results of the survey in London.

"Our task is to take preventive measures in order to prevent spreading of virus at the territory of the country. In particular, we establish posts and disinfection barriers to carry out disinfection of the cars, entering and leaving the country," SVS told Trend.

SVS noted that Azerbaijan was able to struggle with bird flu.

"We have sufficient number of chemicals for preventive measures, while 1,500 units of special protective suits have been received recently," the SVS stressed.

Touching upon the announcement of quarantine at the territory, the Veterinary Service said that it had not been determined what territory infection covered.

Scientists from London's Weybridge laboratory have detected the avian flu virus in wild birds found dead on Azerbaijan's Caspian Sea coast, a Health Ministry source said.

The ministry has urged farmers to prevent any contacts between their domestic poultry and wild birds, Interfax reports.

Ministry informed ANS that State Veterinary Service holds tightened control and takes all necessary prophylactic measures against the flu threat. No contagion cases are observed among people.

Agriculture and Health Ministry advices citizens to refrain from close contact with birds, to isolate poultries and to inform veterinary services of any bird deaths.
