International seminar on use of IT in librarianship commences in Baku

The M.F.Akhundov Azerbaijan National Library hosted the international seminar on the subject Application of Informational Technologies in Librarianship, and Automation co-organized by the UNESCO National Commission on Azerbaijan and the country’s Ministry of Culture.

In his opening remarks, Minister of Culture Polad Bulbuloglu noted that there are over 10 thousand libraries in Azerbaijan, four thousand of which are functioning under the Ministry, AzerTAj reports.

He pointed out that the National Library had undergone major repairs, and now provides computer-based services to its clients. "Today clients are offered an opportunity to order books they need from home. Besides, in 9 regions of the Republic readers are able to connect any library all over the world via internet", he said.

Other speakers including Kerim Tairov, Director of the Azerbaijan National Library, Dushan Katushka, Director of Slovakian National Library, Shakhla Khudiyeva, Library Development Program Coordinator at the US Embassy and Elmira Aliyeva, Director of Centralized Library System in Ganja outlined activities and use of informational technologies in the work of their departments. They also emphasized the importance of holding such seminars for exchange of experience.
