ANAMA will have to check for explosives 170,000 sq/m in Agstafa

Azerbaijan National Agency of Mine Action (ANAMA) reported that an explosion of a metal-processing shop that happened on October 21 in Agstafa was due to an illegal activity of the plant.

Thus "Afgan" firm was transporting unexploded military supplies from an old ammunition depot remained from the Soviet period to its exploded shop, where its workers were disarming the explosives, dismantling them for a farther processing of the metal of the missiles.

ANAMA approximates that about 100 missiles exploded simultaneously due to careless handling of a worker. As the result, the shop placed only 200 meters away from domiciles was destroyed completely.

The explosion killed three and injured 23 people. Houses standing in the radius of three kilometers from the place of the explosion were damaged. The government of Azerbaijan instructed ANAMA to conduct relevant operations in the place of the accident immediately as they have happened.

Starting October 22 ANAMA discovered more than 800 unexploded military supplies (UMS) and sent them to its own central disarming territory.

The area that is still waiting to be cleared from the ammunition is equal to 170,000 sq/m. Emergency research group has been formed to find the munitions scattered by the explosion all over the surroundings.
