Executive Committee kept coach Torres in his duty

05 April 2005 [09:23] - TODAY.AZ
Yesterday in headquarters of AFFA meeting of Executive Committee members was held. In closed meeting by the participation of head coaches of national teams as well, guest games with Poland and England were discussed.
The main discussion subject of the meeting lasting more than two hours was the resignation of Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Torres. After the meeting, Executive Committee members refused to give interview to media.

Only veteran footballer Iskender Javadov replied the questions of journalists about the meeting. I.Javadov stated that, though he wanted the resignation of Torres, nobody supported him: "The coach of the team losing the game with 8:0 must be sent to resignation. But AFFA leaders blamed club heads in the failure. As a reason, low physical preparation of the players was indicated".

According to veteran footballer, he stated the importance of the coach to be Azerbaijani in the meeting: "But AFFA president Ramiz Mirzayev stated that the level of coaches in Azerbaijan is low and they are illiterate. You know Torres and Mirzayev fit to each other. They are the people of the same level".

According to I.Javadov, Torres basing on his illness agreed to resign: "Carlos Alberto confesses that he is 61 and suffers when he is on a visit. But meeting participants wanted him to stay in national team. Executive committee must take a lesson from the failure of 8:0 with Poland. But they are happy to fail with a score of 2:0. Failure is always a failure; the team is not given any point for that, isn't it?" /APA/
