16 cases of snakebites reported in Azerbaijan

16 people have fallen victim to snakebites over the months of May and June in Azerbaijan.

Azer Magsudov, the head of the Toxicology Department for Clinical Medical Center, said there were recorded cases of snake attack intensification since May, what is typical for the season.

According to Magsudov, snakes are much more aggressive on the onset of the hot summer season.

The toxicologist said that snake poisoning have been recorded mainly in the regions: "Our department in Shamakhi, Gabala, Yevlakh, Kazakh, Barda, Shamkir and Gadabay, as well as in the surrounding villages, and even more cases in Garadag, Gozdak and Zira detected cases of snakebites. These people were mainly poisoned by viper snake. In the first 3 months of 2015, 38 people were poisoned by carbon monoxide. Since the beginning of the year 31 people were exposed to allergic reactions. "

The most common species of snake in the Absheron peninsula is the blunt-nosed viper, which is deadly to humans. Its bite can kill a man within 15 minutes.

Watch your step, in case if you find any snakes, do not try to catch it by yourself, it must be very dangerous! Try to not disturb the viper and seek a professional immediately upon encountering one.
