40 border violators arrested in January

Around 40 people were arrested due to 31 incidents of violating the Azerbaijani state border in January, the State Border Service told Trend on Thursday. Around 22 are Azerbaijani citizens.

Among the detained are four Uzbek citizens, three Tajik, two Iranian, two Malaysian, two Pakistani, two Afghan and three from other countries.

Some 57 people were detained over 42 cases of border violation in January. The appropriate measures were taken towards them.

Some 177 people who have been wanted were detained and handed over to law enforcement bodies during the reporting period.

During the month, border guards prevented an attempt to transport 37 kilogrammes 232 grams of drugs through the border. Five gangs were revealed and dealt with accordingly.

Border guards seized smuggled goods worth 1.54 million manat in January.
