Construction of Khazar Islands runs smoothly- PHOTOS

 Construction of Khazar Islands, a new city to be built by Avesta on artificial islands, is in full swing. Cutting edge technologies that ensure high quality and sustainability of the project are being used in construction operations.

Equipment of the world`s top brands, such as Liebherr, Bauer, Comansa and Man, has been purchased to carry out construction work. Leading European specialists have been drawn to the implementation of the project.

Khazar Islands is a man-made island being developed in the Caspian Sea at the southern part of the Absheron Peninsula, about 23km south-west of the Baku.

Construction on the Khazar Islands project was launched in November 2010. The man-made island is being broached with reinforced concrete columns around the perimeter. Around 50ha of space is being laid with these columns in the first stage of construction.

The project is expected to take 15 years to complete. The first phase of construction and the facilities including residential buildings and educational institutions will be completed by 2015.

The project will comprise of two parallel lines of buildings on the main island, high-rise constructions on several isolated islands and villas on stand-alone islands. The project is also planned to include the world's tallest building.

The master plan of the Khazar Islands includes the development on the 2,000ha of area consisting of more than 40 man-made islands interlinked by suspension bridges, pedestrian walkways and structures.

The buoyant metropolis is being planned for 1 million residents, who will be housed in endless rows of high-rises ranging for 25 to 60 stories in height with access to over 150 schools, 50 hospitals and daycare centers, plus numerous parks, shopping malls, cultural centers, university campuses, and even a Formula 1 racetrack.  Bridges will be built to link all facilities in the complex.
