Armenians seriously damaged Khojavand’s nature

Khojavand region with the total area of 145647 hectare was seized by the Armenian aggressors on October 2, 1992. 20 years have passed from the invasion of the region.

Khojavand region which is considered one of the ancient dwelling places and distinguished with its peculiar natural resources and nature monuments holds Norite rock with the total resources of 2034 thousand m3 and suitable to the production of facing stone; Khojavand limestone with the total resources of 989 thousand tons, propitious for the production of lime; and subsoil fresh water deposits with the prognostic resources of 90.33 thousand m3/day.

Eastern pine with the diameter of 600 cm, height of 25 m, aged 1000 and 2 else with the diameter of 600 cm, height of 25 m, aged 2000 were protected as nature monuments in Qirmizibazar settlement of Khojavand region.

Hornbeam-leaved zelkovas aged more than 100 years with the average diameter of 24 cm and height of 12 m, included in the “Red Book” and belonging to the Tertiary period were conserved in Qarakand village of Khojavand region as well.

Oak trees in Khojavand forest with the total area of 25.5 thousand hectare were felled and shipped by Armenians, and natural forest beside the Khojashin river was quelled.
Trees (fig, mulberry, pomegranate, beech, hawthorn, oak, elm and other species) in the area of about 6000 hectare located in Kurapatkin territory of the region were cut down and eliminated.

According to the data of the “Operative center defining (controlling) devastating impact to the environment and natural resources in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, areas of the region are constantly fired, fauna and flora are entirely destroyed, trees suitable to productive material are chopped, shipped to Armenia, and sold to other countries.

47 plant and 19 tree patterns were utterly fired based on the information obtained from various sources.
