Suez Environment to draft action plan for Azerbaijan’s water supply system

On September 24 Azersu OJSC and France’s Suez Environment company signed an agreement to support the Baku water supply service assessment and master planning.

The agreement was signed by Azersu OJSC CEO Gorkhmaz Huseynov and Vice-President of Suez Environment Eric Gebal.

The agreement envisages the development of action plan for the assessment of the existing status of the Baku water supply system to provide regular water supply.

At the signing ceremony Huseynov said that according to the instructions of the President Ilham Aliyev, the country is undertaking projects of reconstruction of water supply and wastewater system. The main purpose of these projects is to provide population with regular and high-quality drinking water. "We are cooperating with leading international companies. We have signed an agreement with Turkey regarding the master plan for water supply of the Absheron Peninsula. I hope that the cooperation with the French company will also be successful and we will be able to implement all joint projects,” Huseynov said.

Vice President of Suez Environment Eric Gebal, for his part, described his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan within his recent visit to France, and noted that he was aware of reforms aimed at the improvement water and sewerage system in Azerbaijan. He noted that Suez Environment is operating worldwide and is pleased to cooperate with Azerbaijan. "I assure you that we will provide the full implementation of our obligations under the terms of the agreement," he said.
