New zoo to appear in Azerbaijan – PHOTOS

A new zoological park that will be constructed in Azerbaijan will be home for 1,518 animals of 224 species,   said Hikmet Alizade, Deputy Director of the Department of Protection of Biological Diversity & Development of Specially Protected Nature Areas at the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry.

”For each group of animals,  there will be created a corresponding landscape close to its natural environment, the traditional range of their habitat, as possible,”  he said

Alizade stated that the zoo will be called "Azerbaycan Tebiet Alemi" (Nature of Azerbaijan) and will definitely differ from many well-known zoos in the world. The project is developed by the Turkish-German joint venture, and an expert from the Netherlands invited as a consultant.
 
Maintenance and care of animals in the park, as well as recycling, will be conducted in accordance with the modern standards. According to the project, the territory of the zoo will reach 55 acres.
 
Earlier it was planned to build the zoo near the Gobu village in Absheron , but later it was decided to change the place, as the territory did not meet the requirements of either climatic or geographical conditions, topography and local infrastructure was considered unsuitable for a zoo. The new territory is located 25 kilometers from Baku.
