Before anything else is said or done it’s important that you recognize that all 3 resources are essentially the same and work in almost the identical fashion: you upload your content, you create or upload a book cover/art, you write a description for your e-book, and then you select a price for what you want your book to be sold for. The major difference, however, is who will have access to your e-book. Each service caters to a specific audience and depending on whom you think would benefit from your e-book more will be the determining factor for which service to choose.
Lulu (lulu.com). Only registered-Lulu members can purchase and download e-books that are offered within the site’s marketplace. What makes this service phenomenal is that it allows you to convert your blog into an e-pub. The e-pub is a special format that enables your e-book to be downloaded to basically all major e-readers, including the Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Nobles’ Nook and of course the popular Apple iPad 1 and 2. While this service will help you reach multiple brand-name e-readers, the downside is that the site may not have the quantity of members you are looking for which means you may make less revenue, but then again you may make a killing.
KindleDirect Publishing (kdp.amazon.com). Like the name suggests, this service directly caters to the millions of Kindle users around the world. Because the user-number is in fact so high, you can reach an abundant of people which means you can make the sales (and the royalties) that you want. Granted you can only qualify to receive either as must as 70% or as little as 35 % of those royalties (you’ll need to check to site to get more information on the subject and how you can earn the higher percentage) but it’s definitely a smart way to go.
Pubit! (pubit.barnesandnoble.com). To finish up the list is Pubit, which is a service provided by Barnes and Nobles and thus is naturally only available to Nook users. Nook may not be as popular as the iPad or Kindle, but their purchasing rate is pretty solid.
