Over 40 percent of Armenian children live in poverty

As much as 3.7 percent of children live in extreme poverty in Armenia, while a total number of child poverty is 41.4 percent amid overall poverty rate of 35.8 percent, Head of the Social Support Department of the Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Astghik Minasyan said at the parliamentary hearings on children rights' protection.

Minasyan said the targeting family allowance remains to be a topical issue: how to make benefit to reach exactly poor families. According to Minasyan, after comparing the databases allowed to reveal the poor families who were not previously registered in the system and who are entitled to benefits.
