
An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has jolted the Turkish city of Izmir, CNN Turk TV channel reported. According to preliminary data, no deaths or damage is reported as a result. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Aegean Sea.
Previously a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 jolted the Van Province on Oct.23 killing more than 600 people. Over 4,000 people were injured. About 2,262 buildings were destroyed.
An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale with the epicenter in Edremit took place in the province of Van on Nov.9. The earthquake destroyed 25 buildings, including two hotels. As a result, 40 people died.
