Bushehr NPP to fully operate in early 2012

The Bushehr nuclear power plant will being fully operating from February 1, 2012 in honour of the Decade of Fajr and generate 1000 megawatts of electric power, the head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organizstion Firudin Abbasi was quoted by the official website of the Iranian television İribnews as saying.

The Decade of Fajr begins on Feb. 1 when Imam Khomeini returned to Iran on this day in 1979. "The electric power generation at the Bushehr nuclear power plant was brought up to 750 megawatts two days ago," he said. "The experts under IAEA supervision operate at the station to improve it. About 1000 megawatts of electric power generated by the nuclear power plant will be delivered to the country's grid system in February 2012 during the holiday.

Stressing that the uranium plant is being constructed near the city of Ardakan, Yazd province, Mr Abbasi said that Iranian scholars- nuclear physicists have developed a technology to enrich uranium to 20 per cent.
