U.S. unequivocally supports Georgia's NATO aspiration

"The United States strongly supports Georgia's aspiration for NATO," a member of the U.S. Congress David Dreier told journalists in Tbilisi.

"The United States strongly supports Georgia's accession to NATO and I hope that Russian President Medvedev's desire will not come true from this point of view," he stressed.
Medvedev said two days ago that if there was no Russian intervention in 2008, Georgia and several other countries today would be NATO members.

"The day will come, and I hope it will happen soon, when we will see Georgia in NATO, and if President Medvedev wishes not to see Georgia as a NATO member and it is his goal, I would like to wish his desire not to come true," Dreier said. He also discussed the US-Russian relations and stressed that "maximum should be done to avoid a possible new cold war or a similar threat".
