Turkey urges Germany to probe racist attacks more deeply

23 November 2011 [11:00] - TODAY.AZ
Germany should investigate racist attacks more deeply, probing their links to foundations and credit organizations, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday, dpa reported.

Speaking to the parliamentary caucus of his Justice and Development Party, Erdogan said the neo-Nazi killings of eight Turks and one Greek that had come to light recently bore the signs of a deeper organization than one extreme-right group.

"German foundations and credit organizations are supporting plots against Turkey, Turks and foreigners in general," the prime minister said.

"These organization must be investigated. To whom are they giving loans? Are these loans used as declared? It is not enough to say 'The extreme right did that.' It's not as shallow as that," he said.

He said Germany could take Turkey as an example in pursuing underground organizations. He seemed to be referring to Turkey's prosecution of the ultra-nationalist "Ergenekon" plot to overthrow his government.

In the past fortnight, the German government has discovered that the murders of a dozen people - including eight Turks, one Greek and a policewoman - several years ago were all carried out by a previously unknown neo-Nazi group.
