Turkey ready to transport Iraqi gas to Europe

Turkey is prepared to transport Iraqi gas, which is delivered to the port of Ceyhan, to European markets in the form of liquid gas, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz told the Black Sea energy forum on Thursday, Ankara news agency reported.

"The Iraqi gas will be made liquid in Turkey and further delivered to Europe," the Minister noted.

Iraqi Oil Ministry Spokesman Asym Jihad said earlier that the Iraqi Oil Ministry developed a plan of increase of natural gas production in the country.

At the initial stage, the country will boost production from the three fields in operation. The second stage envisions the use of bypass gas from oilfields. Here, gas reserves at estimated at 20 million cubic meters or 700 million cubic feet per day.

The Ministry's spokesman said another way of increase of gas production in Iraq is exploration of new fields; a tender involving foreign companies has been announced on this occasion.
BP says Iraqi proven gas reserves, as of the early 2011, were equivalent to 3.17 trillion cubic meters.

Iraq produces gas from its three biggest fields: Akkaz situated in locality Anbar; Siba situated in town Basra; and Mansuriya situated in locality Deyali.
