Iranian FM cautions world people against Washington’s lies

08 November 2011 [12:31] - TODAY.AZ
Iran's Foreign Minister, Ali-Akbar Salehi, on Monday advised the world people to be careful of the lies of Washington rulers, IRNA reported.

Salehi, speaking to IRNA on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Saint Petersburg, said American officials have resorted to political and media fabrications to divert public opinion in the US and the world from its critical economic conditions.

He said having failed in the economic and political spheres, the White House rulers are now turned to telling lies and dividing countries to offlay the blame on the problems their country is suffering.

He added that Iranian officials and statesmen have times and again voiced their outrage against terrorism in different parts of the world and today, all are aware of the fact that Islamic Iran has itself been among major terrorism victims.

Touching on recent US allegations, that the Islamic Republic of Iran had been involved in false and suspicious plot of assassination in the country, Salehi said such fabrications are in line with White House's 30-year-old plots against independence and dignity of Islamic Iran in the region and dividing Muslim states.

He said as American officials' claim was proved to be wrong and unsubstantiated, it became clear to all once again that Iran is not involved in terrorism.

Also referring to Iran's valuable efforts to fight terrorism as acknowledge to by regional countries and international organizations, Salehi said that of course, successful campaign against the ugly phenomenon, which has a wide scope worldwide, would be possible through international cooperation and away of selected approaches towards it.

As a country losing 16,000 of its citizens due to terrorism, Iran is a major terrorism victim worldwide, he noted.

Referring to the Islamic awakening movement in the region, Salehi said from the standpoint of the Islamic Republic of Iran, regional developments and related popular uprisings have their roots in global arrogance's support for unpopular regimes, who have brought nothing for their people but poverty, corruption and class rifts as well as injustice.

"We believe nations' will for change and development can not be suppressed through military build-up, horror and intimidation and gone is the era for such measures."

He added that experience in past years have shown that willful military acts and unilateralism of certain countries have stirred insecurity and massacre of innocent people as well as new threats to the world people, said the minister, adding that threatening independent states by military action is doomed to failure.

Salehi is in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to attend the prime ministers' session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
