Georgia, Russia may finalize agreement on terms of Russia’ joining to WTO

The Georgian delegation for the talks with Russia on its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) left for Switzerland on Thursday morning. The delegation will here negotiate the final document on the terms of Russia's accession to the WTO, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze told journalists at Tbilisi airport.

ITAR-TASS reported that Russia, following Georgia, adopted Switzerland's proposal for the control of goods between Russia and Georgia."

The Georgian and Russian delegations reached an agreement on a draft bilateral agreement relating to the administration of trade in goods, Russia's chief WTO negotiator Maxim Medvedkov told ITAR-TASS.

"If so, then we will develop a final agreement up to the next round of negotiations on Nov.9-10," Kapanadze said. He said the document lacks mention of the occupied territories and deals with the international monitors, controls over the exchange of goods in trade corridors between the two countries.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry told Trend that it has not yet received official notification from the Russian side about the proposals to the WTO.
