A Turkish reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Anka will be available to the armed forces in 2012, Turkish Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz was quoted on Thursday by TV channel TRT Haber.

The drone has made its first successful two-hour test flight and will ultimately be used by Turkish armed forces to combat terrorism.

Anka has been in production since 2004 with about 180 engineers working on the project. A drone, belonging to this class of vehicles with long duration flight capacity, was developed by Turkey independently for the first time.
