PM: Georgia expects six-percent economic growth

27 October 2011 [11:38] - TODAY.AZ
Changes to the 2011 budget were made due to the high economic growth rate, the Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at the enlarged meeting of the Georgian government held in Batumi.

According to him, the third quarter exceeded the expectations of the government. The prime minister said today the economic growth is at least 7.3 percent.

"This is a preliminary figure, which gives us grounds to state that in late this year, economic growth will be not 5.5, as planned, but six percent. Accordingly, we can formally amend the budget and plan economic growth in 2011 at six percent," said Gilauri.

According to him, he met yesterday with representatives of the International Monetary Fund, and they also shared the Government's view that the economy in 2011 is expected to grow rapidly.
