Iranian government allocates USD 42O mln for saving Urmia Lake

Iranian government has allocated USD 420 mln for the prevention of drying up of Urmia Lake, said Iranian MP Mohammad Reza Haji-Asghari, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.

According to him, the corresponding plan was ready for the prevention of lake’s drying up.

The rapid drying up of Urmia Lake caused the mass protests among Iranian Azerbaijanis. It is supposed that the lake’s drying up will cause both serious consequences, and the mass migration of local population, who are engaged in agricultural work mostly, from this region.
