Russia calls for direct contacts between Iran, IAEA

26 October 2011 [09:30] - TODAY.AZ
Russia Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for settlement of existing problems between Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through making direct contacts between Tehran and IAEA, IRNA reported.

According to IRNA reporter, an official with Russia Foreign Ministry Media Department told Russian International News Agency 'RIA Novosti' on Tuesday that 'this sensitive issue requires a careful, responsible, and benevolent behaviour'.

'Its is improbable that such a behaviour could be possible in this circumstance in which certain countries, even before the release of the IAEA report, have started a noisy propaganda,' he said.

On the letter sent by Russia and China to IAEA chief in which he has been urged to have a responsible and cautious behaviour towards Iran's nuclear program, the Russian official said,' Russia insists on Iran's participation in constructive discussions so that the concerns of international community on Iran's nuclear programmes can be removed.'

He stressed that Russia is determined to continue this policy and hopes that other involved countries coordinate their efforts with the aim of achieving a way to resolve the problem of Iran's nuclear programme.

He said, 'It doesn't seem that the release of IAEA chief report is a measured action in this condition when an enormous effort is being made to restart negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1.'

He added,' Such an action, in this juncture, can make the situation tense and prevent to reach an agreement for serious discussions between Iran and the Group 5+1.'
