The 14th Georgian- American Business Council has opened today in Tbilisi. The event serves to strengthen the economic relationship between the two countries.

The business forum is being attended by leading Georgian companies and their colleagues in the U.S., who have already made investments in Georgia. There are also representatives of American companies interested in investing in energy and transport sectors in Georgia.

Opening the forum, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri noted the increased activity of American business in Georgia.

He said: "Our economic ties are growing stronger daily and such forums contribute to their development. This is the right direction from our contacts, as the U.S. is one of Georgia's largest investors.

U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Bass stressed that his government through the Agency for International Development is actively assisting in the development of the Georgian economy.

The forum will end with the signing of a memorandum between the U.S. and the National Institute of Standards and Accreditation Centre of Georgia. This agreement provides for the establishment of standards and licensing for Georgian products, which will facilitate their sale in the U.S. and Western Europe.
