Four Georgians missed during landslide in northeast Armenia

Four Georgian citizens got lost during the major landslide on Georgian-Armenian border, Ambassador of Georgia in Armenia Tengiz Sharmanashvili told journalists on Monday.

He referred to the Armenian Emergency Ministry. Though earlier the Ministry reported that no Georgian citizens suffered in the accident.

The ambassador said the Georgian government offered its help to Armenia in providing relevant experts, but no answer has been given from Armenian side so far.

A major landslide has blocked the traffic in North-East Armenia Sunday evening, leaving about 35 cars under rocks and mud, Tert.am reported earlier today. The Landslide hit 250 metres of trans-boudary Vanadzor-Bagratashen highway between the cities of Alaverdi and Noyemberyan.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan instructed to set up an emergency headquarters to investigate the causes. Emergency services are now on the scene.

Thirty-five vehicles are reported to be under slide, though Nikolay Grigoryan, an advisor to the emergency minister said there are difficulties in specifying their exact number.

Police officers, ambulance workers and employees from the Ministry of Emergency situations are on the scene. Camera operators are not allowed to approach the site for security reasons.
