Turkish PM: All political parties to be involved in preparation of new Turkish constitution

29 September 2011 [14:46] - TODAY.AZ
New constitution in Turkey will be developed in agreement with all the political parties of the country, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday.

He said the authorities are negotiating with all parties so that the new constitution reflected the interests of all political and social forces of the country.

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), headed by Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, gained a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections on June 12. It got 50 percent of votes.
Erdogan's party got 330 seats in the new Parliament. This allows it to form a single-party government. However, it cannot adopt the new draft constitution in the Majlis and hold a referendum on it. This was repeatedly stressed by representatives of the ruling party.
