Five soldiers were killed and three wounded as Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants attacked a gendarmerie station in the southeastern Turkish province of Siirt on Saturday night, CNN Turk reported.
The terrorists mined the road leading to the Belenoluk village, where the attacked station is located, to prevent coming of reinforcements.
Helicopters that delivered commando units to the clash site have also come under fire, which complicated troops landing. PKK positions were struck by Cobra attack helicopters .
More than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict between the state and PKK, which took up arms in 1984. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
