Turkish minister says no risk of economic recession

Turkey's science, industry and technology minister said on Wednesday that there was no risk of an economic recession in Turkey.

Nihat Ergun said it was out of question for Turkey to have an economic recession as of today.

"Turkey has made its calculations by taking into consideration global developments," Ergun told members of Economy Reporters' Association in Istanbul.

Ergun said the Central Bank of Turkey had taken proactive steps and gave the message that it could take measures when necessary to prevent an economic recession.

The industry minister said global developments would naturally have a partial impact on Turkey, however Turkey could take proactive measures, broaden domestic market opportunities.

Ergun said international rating organizations had considered Turkey one of investable countries in the light of recent developments.

"Therefore, we do not see any concerning situation for the coming days, on the contrary, Turkey can have a better performance," the minister also said.
