U.S. ambassador to open small HPP in Georgia

31 August 2011 [11:24] - TODAY.AZ
A small hydropower plant will be opened in the Shenako village in the mountainous region Tusheti (Georgian-Russian border, Eastern Georgia) on Aug.31. As the U.S. Embassy in Georgia told Trend, the hydropower plant will provide about 60 families residing in Shenako with electricity.

Tusheti villages have been left without electricity since 1988 after a 85-kilometer electricity transmission line was damaged.

Organization Winrock Georgia began construction of the HPP with the financial assistance of the USAID and other organizations in 2007. A total of 357.376 ($1=1.65 lari) have been spent for the project.
