Husband of Georgian ex-speaker not intend to surrender to government

30 August 2011 [15:36] - TODAY.AZ
Former head of the Georgian Border Police Badri Bitsadze, who was, in his absence, sentenced to 5.5 years in prison for organizing illegal armed groups and resisting police, told the weekly Asaval-Dasavali that he will not give pleasure to authorities to behold him in prison.

This is Bitsadze's first interview with Georgian press after the court made a verdict on him.
Husband of Georgian Ex-Speaker Nino Burjanadze is on the run, and according to unofficial information, is hiding abroad.

Bitsadze declares his innocence. According to him, the court has relied on false charges that were based on the testimony of one man, whom he even does not know. "General Uchava gave such testimony, on which I had no idea, and about which I did not talk with him," he said.

Former chief of the Border Police says he will fight by the end.

Bitsadze also claims that President Mikhail Saakashvili personally ordered the Special Forces, which dispersed the rally of the National Assembly in the night of May 26, to "beat to death Bitsadze and Burjanadze".

Two man were killed, including a policeman being hit by a car, during the dispersal of the protest of the National Assembly in the center of Tbilisi on May 26.
