The Spanish authorities released former Head of the Georgian Forest Department Bidzina Giorgobiani, who was earlier arrested on an Interpol's red circular.
Giorgobiani wrote on his Facebook page that he was released last night, but was ordered not to leave Spain for two weeks.
Giorgobiani was arrested Aug. 8 on the basis of Interpol requirements, upon an appeal by Georgian authorities.
He wrote that these were the darkest weeks. "We, with the children, came to vacation in Spain and imagine my surprise when I was detained. Fortunately, I am a German citizen, and this country heroically defended me", he said.
Giorgobiani led the Georgian Forestry Department. He left the country in 2005 after accusing law enforcement representatives of involvement in an illegally trading timber.
Giorgobiani was sentenced to six years in prison in 2007 with similar accusations. Giorgobiani settled in Germany, where he received citizenship and began to head the Georgian opposition in Western Europe in the spring of 2011.
