Revenues from broadcasting fall in Georgia

Revenues from broadcasting amounted to 76.3 million lari ($1 = 1.66 lari) in 2010, or down by 13.4 million lari compared to 2009.

The Georgian National Regulatory Commission for Communication indicated in its new report issued on July 27 that revenues from television broadcasting summed up over 69.2 million lari last year compared to 73.7 million lari in 2009.

According to the report, the broadcasting revenues made up 7 million lari last year, which is by 3.3 million lari more than in 2009. The radio broadcasters earned approximately 900,000 lari in donations last year, unlike the television broadcasters who didn't receive such aid last year.

According to a new report, the main source of revenue for television and radio companies were funds received from advertising and sponsorship, which constituted 84 and 83 percent of overall revenues respectively.

A slowdown has been observed in broadcasting revenues since 2009, when cut was observed by 10 million compared to 2008.

Eighty-two operators performed transiting in 2010 and gained 13.7 million lari in revenues, up by 8 million lari compared to 2009. The number of subscribers of cable television amounted to 137,000 by the end of 2010.
