Turkey purchases Chinook helicopters from US

Turkey purchased six CH-47S Chinook helicopters from the US-based Boeing Company.

The helicopter can carry 60 troops, mechanical transport means, as well as cannons, the Turkish newspapers reported.

Five of the six purchased helicopters will be used by ground troops, one – by the special task forces. Turkish armed forces and Boeing reached $400-million deal.

Turkish Army used Blackhawk and Cougar helicopters for shipment before.

Chinook helicopters have been produced since 1962 and US Army is planning to use is until 2040.
