Forest fires hit western Turkey

Fire-fighting teams were trying to extinguish two separate forest fires in western Turkey on Tuesday, local media reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.. Local news agency DHA reported that one fire broke out at an olive farm and spread to the nearby pine forests due to wind in the northwestern province of Balikesir.

Two fire-fighting helicopters and other teams have been dispatched to the area. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. No information was immediately available on any physical or material damage. Balikesir has a Mediterranean climate with long, hot and dry summers with cool and rainy winters.

Meanwhile, attempts were also being made to put out a blaze in the western province of Canakkale. Fire-fighting planes and around 50 forest workers are attempting to put out the blaze. Damage was reported to nearby olive farms.
