Tender for Istanbul's third bridge postponed to end of year

19 July 2011 [10:24] - TODAY.AZ
The tender for the construction of Istanbul’s third bridge on the Bosphorus has been postponed until the end of the year, the motorways authority chairman, Cahit Turhan, said Monday.

“The companies that have officially launched preparations to apply for the tender have asked for it to be postponed. We are thinking to postpone the tender to a date closer to the end of the year,” Turhan said.

Some firms have even asked for a longer period, he said. “However, we want to conclude the bid this year.”

The demand for the tender postponement is an indicator that interested companies are seriously working on the details of the project and making exhaustive calculations, according to Turhan, adding that there was interest from many countries.

“A total of 16 firms have officially stated that they are preparing to apply, including seven from Turkey, four from Japan, two from Russia and one firm per country from Spain, Austria and Italy,” Turhan said. Meanwhile, Chinese, French and South Korean firms have also shown their interest in the tender, through partnerships with local firms, he added.

A two-way railway for high speed trains is also slated for the third bridge.
