Turkish president calls Russian counterpart, extends condolences over Volga boat disaster

Turkish President Abdullah Gul telephoned his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev and extended his condolences over the sinking of a cruise ship on the Volga River which killed at least 100 people, AA reported.

The boat, the Bulgaria, sank on Sunday with a believed 208 passengers on board. Nearly 30 people were reported still missing on Wednesday.

The Turkish president separately telephoned his Turkmen and Afghan counterparts also on Wednesday and relayed condolences over a blast in an arms depot in Turkmenistan last Thursday that killed 15 people, and over the assassination of Afghan President Hamid Karzai's half-brother Ahmad Wali Karzai on Tuesday.
