Iran to increase number of MPs

13 July 2011 [17:23] - TODAY.AZ
Number of members of the Iranian parliament may increase to 310 if an appropriate bill is approved in parliament, Mehr News Agency reported quoting Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Jajjar as saying.

According to Article 64 of the Constitution, the government can propose increasing the number of MPs by 20 individuals per year.

"President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s Cabinet approved the bill to increase the number of MPs and sent it to parliament for ratification," said Najjar.

There are 290 MPs in Iran now.

Next parliamentary elections will be held in Iran in March 2012.
