Turkish Airlines carry 14.8 mln passengers in 6 months

Turkey's national air carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), announced that it carried 14.8 million passengers between January and June, 2011.

The THY said that the number of passengers it carried in the first six months of 2011 went up 10.3 percent when compared to the same term last year and reached a figure of 14.8 million.

During the same term in 2011, passenger occupancy went down 2.7 percent and was recorded as 69.5 percent.

Based in Istanbul, THY is one of the fastest growing airline companies in the world. A Star Alliance member carrying approximately 25 million passengers a year, THY posted 286 million Turkish lira net profit in 2010.
