Turkish Parliament begins debate on government program

Turkish Parliament began on Monday debates on the 61st government's program read out by the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party Chairman and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan last Friday, AA reported.

Second opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahceli was the first political party leader to speak about the program.

Following Bahceli, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu will express his views on the program.

Lawmakers will also speak about the program which will be followed by Prime Minister Erdogan's response.

Following the debate on government's program, the parliament will hold a vote of confidence on Wednesday.

AK Party government needs 276 votes from the 550-seat parliament to win the vote of confidence. AK Party has 327 lawmakers.

Later, Turkish Parliament will head off for the annual summer recess.
