11 July 2011 [17:06] - TODAY.AZ
Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov and his visiting counterpart Abdullah Gul have discussed energy cooperation and Nabucco as a joint project, FOCUS News Agency reported.

The work on the gas interconnection between Bulgaria and Turkey should be stepped up, President Parvanov said at a press conference with his Turkish counterpart.

According to the Bulgarian head of state the interconnection could serve as both a bypass in critical situations and a pipeline for permanent gas supply.

Nabucco project is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region and the Middle East to the EU countries. The project is worth 7.9 billion euro, with its construction planned to start in 2013 and the first supplies to be commissioned in 2017. The project's participants include the Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE.
