Member of parliamentary commission: Iran does not need boosters of nuclear warheads

01 July 2011 [12:20] - TODAY.AZ
Iran does not need nuclear weapons and boosters of nuclear warheads, a member of the foreign policy and national security commission of the Iranian Parliament Kazem Jalali said.

According to foreign media reports, British Foreign Secretary William Hague stated about the secret testing of Iran's ballistic missiles and missile defense systems during the exercise "Great Prophet-6".

"During military exercise "Great Prophet-6", Iran has tested boosters of nuclear warheads. This is contrary to the UN Security Council resolutions," said Hague.

Iranian Foreign Ministry official Ramin Mehmanparast denied this information.

According to Jalali, Iran informs the public about its achievements in the production of missiles.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly stated that it is not interested in producing nuclear weapons. The public is informed about the achievements in the production of missiles. Our achievements in this sphere are not kept secret," Jalali said by telephone.

According to him, such statements of the Western countries are a continuation of psychological war against Iran and the pressure on the country. "The countries like Britain, Israel and the U.S., are interested in the psychological war against Iran and providing pressure on it. We assess the words of British Foreign Secretary as a psychological war against Iran," said Jalali.

The U.S. and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons under cover of peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful. So far, the UN Security Council has adopted six resolutions to stop Iran's nuclear program and uranium enrichment process. Four of these resolutions provide for economic sanctions against the country.
