Turkish opposition not to take oath in parliament

The leader of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu said he will take part in the work of the Turkish parliament, but will not take oath, Turkish CNN Türk television channel reported.

The party took this decision because the arrested party members, who were elected as MPs, were not allowed to take part in the parliament’s work.

Parliamentary elections were held in Turkey on June 12. The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), headed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, won the parliamentary elections gaining 50 percent of the votes.

According to the election results, Erdogan’s party received 326 mandates in a new parliament.

The Republican People's Party (ÑÍÐ) ranked second (25.8 percent of votes, 135 MPs), and the Nationalist Movement Party ranked third (13.6 percent of votes and 53 MPs).
