Georgian Prosecutor's Office prosecutes former Defense Minister

The Georgian Prosecutor General's Office is prosecuting the former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili, by accusing him of instigating an illegal armed group, the Georgian Prosecutor General's Office said.

"A criminal case was filed against Okruashvili under Article 223, item 1, of the Georgian Criminal Code," the prosecutor's office said.

The prosecutor's office will appeal to the court to determine what measure may be taken against Irakli Okruashvili, the prosecutor's office said.

Georgian Former Defense Minister currently resides in France, having received political asylum there. According to the prosecutor's office, he intended to organize an armed provocation.

The prosecutor's office has not brought up the question of extraditing Okruashvili from France.
