EU holds regional conference on information and communication technologies in Tbilisi

The conference titled "Priorities and Challenges Facing ‘Information Society’ in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus" began today in Tbilisi.

The conference, which will run until June 17, will be held within the Seventh Framework Program (FP7), funded by the European Union, the EU Delegation in Georgia told Trend on Thursday.

The conference aims to formulate a strategy for the development of ICT Research & Development in the region, and to better integrate the region in a wider European effort to promote the popularization of information technologies.

To this end, the conference is targeted at leading researchers and experts from academia and industry, as well as at representatives of Ministries from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

To be discussed are the needs of regional ICT research, capacities and priorities. Concrete recommendations and actions for enhanced collaboration both within the region and with the rest of Europe will be resolved.
