Turkey arrests 11 opposition members

04 June 2011 [12:31] - TODAY.AZ
Eleven members of the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) had been arrested on Saturday morning in Turkey, the Sabah newspaper reported.

They are arrested for supposed provocative actions at the rallies scheduled for 6 June during the party’s election campaign.

The Turkish police received a call about that the MHP plans to hold massive protests, during which a collision should occur. Following this, the police began to conduct operations to detain suspected opposition members.

Turkey is expected to hold the parliamentary elections on June 12. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's party is in power in Turkey since November 2002. The last parliamentary elections were held in June 2007. Then, the AKP gained about 47 percent of votes and formed a single-party government.
